A recent project, started in 2023, concerns the construction of a retreat hotel in Acireale (CT), which will come to life in the spaces occupied by the former Aloha D’oro hotel, located in the oriented nature reserve “La Timpa”, in the Pietra Monaca district.
The project is in line with the aims of the reserve, namely the conservation of the Mediterranean scrub and the landscape values of the area, as well as its lava flows and traditional crops.
The new hospitality establishment will therefore be built on the Timpa of Acireale, a few hundred meters from the historic centre, in the city but at the same time in full nature. A lush terrain of Mediterranean vegetation sloping down to touch the waters of the Cyclops coast. In order to design a hotel on such a unique site, we started by carefully examining the nature and surrounding environment and the plots that were once dedicated to the cultivation of vines and later lemons. Today it is a forest of hackberry, olive trees, rhamnus with traces of abandoned lemon groves while in the undergrowth the acanthus makes its spectacular appearance. The project intends to enhance the Timpa reserve, making it accessible to national and international tourists who want to discover our territories.
We started from the idea of TIMPA as a ‘retreat destination’ against the stress and sedentary nature of everyday life: a protected oasis where you can regenerate your psycho-physical well-being.
Therefore, the ideal structure to include in this context is zero impact GLAMPING: a central guest reception room and eco lodges on wooden platforms, positioned on large terraces, surrounded by olive, citrus and hackberry trees.
For each platform, a housing unit will be designed to develop on the ancient terraces.
Each “room” will open up to a view of the sea and the crest of the ancient lava ridge now green, with a terrace overlooking the Ionian Sea and the vegetation below.
The room will be designed as a single space, with various modules of 40/60/80 m2, structured so as to have the bed, wardrobe and bathroom at the back while in front of a large window there will be the living room illuminated by natural light, which allows you to maintain privacy on the other three sides.
A staircase opens on the ground floor towards the garden where the swimming pool or your own jacuzzi will be located.
The roof is 340 cm high with two sloping pitches and it will incorporate reeds and fabrics for sound absorption.
By intertwining the outside and the inside without distinction, the border becomes ambiguous, so that you can experience the open space on the vegetation, listening to the sounds of the sea.
In short, living in harmony with nature.
GLAMPING, therefore, as a tool for promoting rural tourism and ecotourism in relation to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage.
The new business model that inspires us aims to enhance the green economy and the local tourism industry, with a project for the rebirth and care of the nature reserve, acting against today's degradation and for the conservation and improvement of the environment.
The choice of those who visit TIMPA will be ethical, linked to sustainable tourism attentive to the conscious use of local resources but also of those who want to be promoters of change.
A new way to travel!
